Overview
U.S citizen Being a U.S citizen is a very sought after citizenship status. Both the United States and the United Kingdom offer many freedoms for permanent residents.
As an American citizen, you are granted the freedom of dual citizenship if you wish it. U.S citizenship can be granted to naturalised U.S citizens in two ways. The law of the United States specifically does not define the need for a single nationality as a requirement.
Naturalisation describes the legal process of an individual acquiring citizenship in a country. Citizenship can be acquired in many ways, such as: through marriage, by descent, by a work visa, or by investment.
An individual will have to be granted Indefinite Leave to Remain to gain citizenship and to successfully naturalise.
A United States citizen can be naturalised in another country without affecting their United States citizenship. This is called dual citizenship, and is recognised in many countries around the world.
However, there are a few exceptions, such as UAE countries, Singapore, Indonesia.
Having the option of resorting to another home opens tremendous opportunities and provides dual or multiple nationals with resolute contingency plans and elevated final freedom.
The Oath of Allegiance to USA
This is a requirement if applying for the American nationality. The Oath of Allegiance to USA is an oath by which all citizens are required to declare during a formal ceremony to become a naturalized U.S. citizen.
The oath ceremony has roots in the 18th Century. When accepting this Oath, the newly elected citizens will have the following obligations:
- Right to live and work in the U.S with no time limit
- Right to property in the U.S
- Right to vote in elections
- Right to serve in the military service
- Obeying the federal, state and local laws, and pay the penalties that can be incurred when a law is broken.
- Paying taxes
- Serving on jury duty when summoned
- Registering with the Selective Service

How can I get dual citizenship in the United States?
No specific form has been submitted in the form of dual citizenry. You may obtain US citizenship through naturalization.
Before making a visa, though, it is best to first contact your local embassy to see if your country offers dual citizenship. This will help determine how to apply. You can’t lose your American citizenship without consulting a consular official.
After defining this policy, the applicant must be satisfied with all the necessary requirements to apply for naturalisation. Typically, the waiting period is between 3 and 5 months after the application is granted.
Rights of dual citizens in the United States
You can work anywhere. You can apply for employment anywhere in the United States without first obtaining a work visa.
As a dual citizen, however, you could be overlooked for certain federal jobs, which often require a security clearance and the ability to maintain confidentiality of classified state information.
The timescale process to become a dual citizen depends on what route you are taking. If you do not already have Indefinite Leave to Remain, you can expect to wait 18.5 months to 24 months or even 3-5 years, sometimes longer if there are gaps in your residency.
The current government filing fee for naturalization applications is $725 (R11954.31) including $640 for processing and $85 for biometrics services.
Military applicants are exempt from both the application filing fee and the biometrics fee. Applicants aged 75 and older are exempt from the biometrics fee.
Citizenship by investment
Citizenship-in-Investment is an alternative path to get citizenship in the USA. Upon attaining an EB5 visa, individuals who have permanent residency can apply. We attempt to naturalize the person.
The investment capital must be 500000 on the E2 visa route and 900000 for the EB-5 visa. People usually call it purchasing passports, but that’s an acronym for purchasing a passport through investment.
Please don’t confuse that with literal meaning, which is illegal. Contact us if your questions about these and similar topics are not answered in detail or by phone.

Countries that do not recognize dual citizenship
One thing to consider is finding out if your chosen foreign country allows dual citizenship.
As a rule of thumb any country that allows its national to become a citizen of two countries allows them to hold more than two citizenships and become more than just a dual citizen, but a global citizen.
Each country sets its standards on citizenship as well as citizenship rights, and these are often more restrictive.
Sometimes, if your parents don’t have citizenship you can still have your own country of birth. If you want to get a second citizenship in the USA you can call the consulate of the country of origin and ask for permission.
You can also find the laws of the country where the birth occurred and get more details or contact our immigration lawyers today.

Obligations of dual citizens in the United States
To remain a dual citizen, you must remain in line with the dual citizenship rules of both your two countries.
You have a lifetime of paying taxes. You are required by law to be a US citizen and you pay taxes on income and expenses for your lifetime.
If the United States or your foreign citizen are not able to pay the same tax you have, you may have to pay a re-imposition on that same income.
You may also be required to join the military service in your second citizenship country.
One aspect of dual citizenship is the potential for double taxation. Double taxation occurs when an individual is a legal permanent resident in two countries.
You can also share your past contacts with judicial agencies. USCIS staff examine applicants very carefully and their background is very carefully analysed.
