Identity verification, document submission, and meeting the same eligibility criteria are also required regardless of location. The visa continues to offer unrestricted work flexibility once granted.

However, there are some key differences. Processing times are shorter from outside the UK, usually around three weeks, compared to around eight weeks for in-country applications. Applicants inside the UK are treated as “switching” or extending their visa, but this is only possible if they already hold an eligible immigration category such as Skilled Worker or Innovator. Those who do not qualify to switch must leave the UK and apply from abroad.

The Global Talent visa timeline depends on both the endorsement stage and where you apply from. Endorsements are usually decided within around 14 working days unless you qualify for a prestigious prize, which bypasses this step entirely.

After endorsement, visa decisions typically take 3 weeks if applying from outside the UK and about 8 weeks if applying from inside the UK. Additional time may be needed for identity checks or, in some cases, interviews.

Costs for the Global Talent visa vary depending on whether the applicant goes through the endorsement process or qualifies via a prestigious prize, as well as how long they plan to stay in the UK.

The way fees are paid depends on the application route:

• Endorsement route: Most applicants pay in two stages
