New UK skilled worker visa launches
Applications have officially opened for the new UK Skilled Worker Visa, the new visa will allow the “best and brightest from around the world” to work in the UK from the launch of the UK’s points-based immigration system on the 1st January 2021. It will replace the current Tier 2 Skilled Workers Visa.
The points-based system will mean that both EEA and non EEA citizens will need to achieve a certain number of points to be awarded a visa. Points are awarded for a job offer of the appropriate skill level, having a knowledge of the English language and meeting the minimum salary requirement.
Speaking about the launch, Home Secretary Priti Patel said:
“This simple, effective and flexible system will ensure employers can recruit the skilled workers they need, whilst also encouraging employers to train and invest in the UK’s workforce. We are also opening routes for those who have an exceptional talent or show exceptional promise in the fields of engineering, science, tech or culture.”
But not all are in agreement that the new system will be beneficial to the UK, with warning that it could add further strain to the NHS, which is already struggling massively due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Priti Patel claimed that the new immigration system will be “effective”
