Windrush victims refused British citizenship after passport confiscation

Ken Morgan’s passport was wrongful confiscated when he travelled back to Jamaica in 1994.

Ken Morgan is a former English teacher who was blocked for 25 years from returning to the UK after his passport was wrongly confiscated. He has now found ineligible for British citizenship due to the length of absence from the United Kingdom. The man advocates that the reason he was absent for such a long time was because he was barred by British officials from entering the country and he has now requested an administrative review.

The man moved from Jamaica to the UK in 1960 and lived and worked in London for more than 30 years. In 1994, when he travelled to a relative’s funeral in Jamaica, his passport was confiscated when he was on his way back to London.

Morgan remained in Jamaica for 25 years until the Windrush scandal broke. He then reapplied for British Citizenship in 2018, but, after almost two years, he received a negative response from the Home Office.

Speaking of the decision, Morgan said:

“How can you prevent someone from returning, then turn their application down and tell them you were not in the country and therefore are not eligible? Hello? Hello? Why was I not in the country? It makes no sense.”
